Atividade 1º A - unidade 3 (novembro 2019)

Hello, 1º A!

Vamos fechar essa etapa da unidade 3 com um exercício simples de interpretação de texto. Leia com atenção o texto "The interview" (A entrevista) e siga as instruções ao final. Let´s go!

THE INTERVIEW

Yesterday Debbie had a job interview. The interview was for an accounting job. Debbie graduated university 3 months ago. 

Her interview was at 10:00 am. She woke up at 7:00 am and left her house before 8:00 am. She waited for the bus, but it was late. She was very worried because she did not want to be late for the interview. She tried to phone the company to warn them, but her phone battery was dead. 

When the bus arrived, it was almost 9:00 am. Then the bus was slow because there were many other cars. The bus finally arrived at Debbie’s stop at 9:45 am. 

Debbie ran from the bus stop to the office building. When she entered, she saw a sign that said the company was on the 24th floor and many people stopped at different floors.   

When Debbie arrived at reception, it was 9:58. She was in time!  

"I am here to see Mrs. Lewis”, said Debbie.

The receptionist checked her book and replied:  

“She is not here today.  What is your name please?”

“My name is Debbie Gregson.”

“Sorry Debbie, but your appointment is tomorrow.”

O texto fala basicamente sobre Debbie se preparando para uma entrevista de emprego, mas algo errado aconteceu. O que pode ter sido?

A LIBRARIAN 

My name is Leona. I work in a public library and I like reading.
I help people finding books, magazines, videos, websites and other information.

Another part of my work is to buy new books, magazines and movies for the library. I arrange books and other items. A librarian also needs computer skills because most libraries have computers.

I often also help people using the computer to find what they need. The best part of my job is helping people. There are many kids who love reading. They sometimes ask me if I could help them to find an interesting book. But I also spend a lot of time at my desk or at the computer to enter data of books and people.

I work full time, but there are two librarians who work part time at our library. People can come to our library from Monday to Friday. Opening hours are from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.  On Wednesday and Thursday people can come to us from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm.

My girlfriend Anna is a school librarian. She loves reading to children and teaching them about books and research. Anna works when school is open and she is off during school vacations. 

Some librarians work in government, businesses and other places where people need to find information quickly. You usually need a graduate degree in library science or information science to be a librarian.

MY PLANS 

Today, I'm going to do the shopping and clean up the house. 

In the afternoon, I'm going to meet my friends and watch a movie on NetFlix. We're going to spend some time together. 

In the evening, I'm going to call my grandmother and tell her I'm going to send her some pictures of my new house. She's really curious! 

Today, I'm not going to work too much because I don't want to get tired. I have an important event to go to on the weekend.

Nuclear energy (3º ano)

Hello, people! 

Temos estudado o vocabulário sobre o "nuclear energy" e nesta última aula (01/08) trabalhamos com um texto do qual ouvimos e comentamos algumas questões na classe. Eis o texto: 

Many scientists say nuclear energy is our future. Many normal people aren’t so sure. I think most of us worry about nuclear energy. We hear on the news about the dangers of nuclear power. Many years ago there was a big accident in Chernobyl, Russia. A nuclear reactor caught fire and melted. Because of this, deadly radiation spread across the whole of Europe. There were reports that sheep in England caught radiation sickness. I think things are safer now. Many countries trust nuclear energy. France and Japan each has dozens of nuclear power stations. I think it’s probably a good idea. We really need to stop using fossil fuels. Nuclear power is a lot less harmful to the environment. Perhaps we need to spend more money on making it safer.

Clothes & accessories

Hello, everybody! :) 

Como estamos falando sobre compras (shopping) e valores em nossas aulas, que tal aprendermos o vocabulário de clothes (roupas) e accessories (acessórios) em inglês? 

As ilustrações a seguir são bem interessantes e ricas em termos de vocabulário. Caso tenham dificuldade de visualização, basta clicar sobre as imagens. (Fonte das imagens: 7ESL) 

Confiram agora um pequeno vídeo (duração de 2 minutos) com diálogo entre salesperson (vendedor) e customer (cliente). Notem o seguinte: "Can I help you?" tem o mesmo significado de "May I help you?". A diferença é apenas a informalidade. Vejam:

Façamos um exercício de hipóteses, condições. É o que estamos estudando nesta unidade 2, certo? Leia as questões e reflita sobre elas. Algumas são engraçadas e mais descontraídas, outras exigem mais reflexão. Responda em inglês até o dia 16/07/2019 na parte dos comentários. Numbers

Hello! :) 

Conhecer os numbers (números) em inglês é importante para que possamos avançar na comunicação. Por exemplo, como poderemos falar sobre idade das pessoas, preços de produtos e outros temas que envolvem números se não os aprendermos? 

É o que faremos agora. Vejam este quadro: 

Como você reparou, a partir do número 20 em diante basta acrescentarmos os números de 1 a 9: 

28 = twenty-eight
63 = sixty-three
89 = eighty-nine

Pratique a pronúncia dos números assistindo ao vídeo: 

Os números de cinco ou mais dígitos são divididos por vírgulas na casa dos milhares: 

10,000 = Ten thousand (dez mil)
1,000,000 = One million (um milhão)

What´s your job? EIXO VI - 2019

Hello, people! ☺

Hoje faremos uma atividade para finalizar a unidade 1 na matéria de inglês. Temos abordado o tema TRABALHO (to work, job, occupation, etc.) em sala de aula, bem como o tempo verbal SIMPLE PRESENT (presente simples). 

Bem, vamos à atividade. A primeira coisa a se fazer é assistir ao vídeo a seguir - é bem  simples e curtinho, tem pouco mais de 3 minutos. Preste bastante atenção às falas dos entrevistados.
